Enjoy David Ortiz while you can

There’s a day Boston Red Sox fans are not looking forward to. And it’s going to happen in the next 45 days — at the latest.

As you probably know by now, this is David Ortiz’ last year. Not familiar with that name? How about Big Papi?

Yes. Big Papi is David Ortiz, for those who weren’t sure. But think right now for a moment: it’s September. Baseball ends in October. And after this year, Ortiz is never playing a game ever again.

Sounds pretty obvious. But at the same time, you have to remember: Ortiz will never play in a game ever again. This is — statistically speaking — the best Red Sox hitter of the 21st century. One could argue Manny Ramirez was the Red Sox best hitter of this century, but that dude had some serious issues and it cost him some time and results off his big league career. Ortiz on the other hand, well, you can’t hate Ortiz — no matter what he does — unless you’re a Yankees fan.

OK, maybe that’s a little bit of an exaggeration. But I would say he’s more flawless than Regina George — even with a bad Achilles.

But the big man is putting his team in great position to go out on top. After all, he wants a World Series this year probably more than any year he’s ever played — except he calls it a “crown”.

If you haven’t been watching the Red Sox, now would be a good time to start. They’re in real contention this year and while the Red Sox are in a decent spot to make the playoffs, you can’t really expect them to make it until they actually make it because the AL East is tight this year. So, really, we don’t know how many games Ortiz has left. And when he’s gone, he’s gone. And there’s no way to replace him. So enjoy him while you can.
